It sits at about 1,750 metres above sea level, in Kenya’s Central Highlands, which gives its coffee favourable growing conditions.
Its soils are fertile and volcanic, and irrigation is partly from the Riara River, which is fed by streams from the highland areas.
Tours are offered daily, typically twice a day (morning and afternoon), with guided walks through the plantations, a visit to the factory, and tasting of premium coffee grades. For many visitors, the highlight is the “cupping” or tasting experience, where one can appreciate the different flavour profiles of Fairview’s blends.
Aside from coffee, the estate offers various natural attractions such as walking trails, waterfall (Riara Falls), bird-watching, and scenic gardens
Fairview has around 100 acres under coffee cultivation.
During harvest peaks, the estate employs over 400 people to take care of pruning, irrigating, harvesting and sorting.
The processing of coffee—selection, depulping, fermentation, washing, drying—is done onsite in a mill, ensuring quality control from cherry to cup.
Owned by the family of Leonard Kibinge (former ambassador to the US) for several decades, Fairview is not just a farm but a cultural asset.
The estate is seen as part of Kenya’s strategy to make coffee farming sustainable, both ecologically and economically. Through agro-tourism it is helping to add value beyond just raw coffee sales
